Guizhou
Into the Land of Living Arts
Batik, silverwork, and 1,000-year-old papermaking — all made by hand, by people who've dedicated their lives to it.
About this trip
Guizhou is where China's minority cultures have been kept alive by sheer stubbornness. The Miao and Buyi people here make batik with natural indigo, silver with a thousand-hammer method, and paper in caves that haven't changed in a millennium. This trip takes you into their workshops, their homes, and their long-table banquets.

Your Local Guide
Chen Qin
Chen Qin is the village doctor of Jidao. She also converted her own home into a free embroidery training base, where women who previously had no income now earn over 10,000 RMB a year from their craft. She'll tell you this matter-of-factly, as if it's obvious. It took us a few trips to fully appreciate what she'd built.
